How does the International Criminal Court work?

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta faces charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

He denies the charges, which concern his role in violence that followed disputed elections in 2007 and killed 1,000 Kenyans.

He is the first serving head of state ever to come before the court.
